WWDC 2026: What Apple Announced Today

Today — 8 June 2026 — Apple kicked off WWDC 2026 with the announcement of iOS 27. The headline is a completely rebuilt Siri, now powered by a custom Google Gemini model, that can understand context, take actions across third-party apps, and learn how you actually use your phone.

Alongside the Siri overhaul, iOS 27 brings Liquid Glass design refinements, improved battery and performance, AI-powered photo tools, and further improvements to Live Activities — the feature that shows real-time information right on your Lock Screen without opening any app.

For shift workers, that last one matters most. And Overtime Live has been built around it from the start.

Live Activities — Overtime Live Is Already There

Live Activities launched with iOS 16.1 back in 2022. From day one, Overtime Live was built to run on it.

When you start a shift, your earnings counter appears on your iPhone Lock Screen and updates every second. You don't need to unlock your phone or open the app to see how much you've made. Your running total, your shift countdown, everything — live, in real time, on the screen you look at most.

🔒

Live Earnings on Your Lock Screen

Start a shift and your total earned — to the penny — updates live on your Lock Screen. No unlock required. Works on iOS 16.1 and above, fully compatible with iOS 27.

⏱️

Real-Time Shift Countdown

Your exact time remaining in the shift sits right there on the Lock Screen alongside your earnings. Watch both tick down. When the shift ends, the Live Activity closes automatically.

Already Live Activities-Ready

Overtime Live has used Apple’s Live Activities framework since iOS 16.1. iOS 27 improves Live Activities — Overtime Live will benefit automatically, no update required on launch day.

Dynamic Island Support

If you have an iPhone 14 Pro, 15, 15 Pro, 16, 16 Pro, or any newer model, Overtime Live already runs in the Dynamic Island too.

During an active shift, the Dynamic Island shows your live earnings in the pill at the top of the screen. One glance at the top of your display and you know exactly what you’ve made so far. No unlock. No tap. Just there.

🏝️

Dynamic Island Earnings Display

Compatible with iPhone 14 Pro and above. Your live earnings sit in the Dynamic Island during every active shift. iOS 27’s updated Siri animations tie into the Dynamic Island — Overtime Live lives there too.

What iOS 27 Actually Means for Shift Workers

Beyond the Siri headlines, there are a few iOS 27 improvements that matter specifically if you work shifts.

Better battery life means your Live Activity lasts longer

iOS 27 carries performance improvements focused on battery efficiency. For a 12-hour shift worker whose phone needs to last a full day, that matters. Overtime Live’s Live Activity running in the background will benefit from these improvements without you needing to do anything.

Siri can interact with third-party apps

The new Siri in iOS 27 is designed to take actions inside third-party apps — not just Apple’s own. That opens the door for voice-triggered features like “Hey Siri, start my shift in Overtime Live” to become a real possibility. We’ll be looking at Siri integration as iOS 27 developer betas roll out over the summer.

Improved Live Activities

Apple has signalled further refinements to the Live Activities framework in iOS 27. More flexibility in how apps can present information on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island. Overtime Live is positioned to take advantage of these as soon as they’re in the public release.

Liquid Glass design refresh

iOS 27 continues refining the Liquid Glass design language introduced last year. Overtime Live’s own dark UI and real-time counters translate naturally into this aesthetic. The app already looks at home on newer iPhones and that won’t change with iOS 27.
